WHAT IS THERAPY?

Therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is a process where a trained professional helps individuals or families better understand and work through personal challenges. These may include depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, family difficulties, or work-related concerns.

The goal of therapy is not to change who you are, but to help you develop greater awareness, understanding, and compassion toward yourself and others so you can make meaningful choices in your life.

HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT TO BE IN THERAPY?

The length of therapy varies depending on the nature, intensity, and duration of the concerns being addressed. Sessions are typically held once per week at the beginning of treatment so we can establish a strong therapeutic relationship.

Some clients attend therapy for only a few sessions, while others may continue for several months or longer. Together, you and your therapist will determine the pace and duration of treatment that best supports your goals.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FIRST SESSION?

The first session is a 60-minute initial intake appointment. The primary goal of this session is information gathering. I will ask questions about what brings you to therapy, your goals for treatment, and relevant background information that may help guide the treatment process. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions, learn about my therapeutic approach, and determine whether you feel comfortable working with me. If we decide that my services are a good fit for your needs, we will discuss scheduling ongoing therapy sessions.

HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION?

The initial intake appointment is 60 minutes. Ongoing individual therapy sessions typically last 45–55 minutes.

Mental health evaluations and assessments may take approximately 60–90 minutes, depending on the nature of the evaluation.
